AIS – Automatic Identification System

AIS - Adveto - History

1993 – The very first company in the world with charts and combined marine AIS-presentation?

Already 1991 there was an equipment in Sweden called AVMS (Automatic Vessel Monitoring System)
= a primitive AIS-system. AVMS was an early AIS-experiment from Swedish Maritime Administration
through Bo Tryggö and Benny Pettersson.
In 1993, we got a request from SMA regarding AIS-presentation for a test-project in Gothenburg
(situated on the Swedish westcoast) with around 10 smaller ships.

The primitive AVMS was now left over for the new "GPS-transponder" - an invention from the wellknown Swedish inventor Håkan Lans.
This equipment had syncronous transmission and higher capacity.

Today it is clear that these "test-systems" in Gothenburg were the very first AIS-installations in the world !

Styrsöbolagets Fröja here at Saltholmen-Gothenburg, equipped already 1993 with AIS and Adveto-system.
